Renowned Armenian conductor Vahagn Papyan has been appointed Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia, the National Center for Chamber Music reported.
Born in Yerevan in 1956 to a family of artists, Papyan grew up immersed in Armenia’s cultural life. His father, Anatoli Papyan, was a People’s Artist of Armenia, while his mother, Amalya Bayburtyan, was a Merited Artist of Armenia.
Papyan studied piano at the Tchaikovsky Secondary Music School in Yerevan before continuing at the Moscow State Conservatory. He later pursued conducting at the St Petersburg Conservatory, establishing himself as both a distinguished pianist and conductor.
