Armenian opposition MP criticizes government rhetoric

Armenian opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan on Wednesday criticized the government’s rhetoric regarding Azerbaijan’s actions near Armenia’s border, accusing the authorities of ignoring the Azerbaijani occupation of Armenian border areas.

Writing on social media, Abrahamyan, who represents the Pativ Unem faction, said political discourse around the Azerbaijani incursions into Armenian territory had reached “new heights of absurdity.”

“The authorities, who have silently accepted the Azerbaijani occupation by leaving it to the uncertain fate of a demarcation process, are now delivering forceful speeches from different platforms,” Abrahamyan wrote.

He added that the government’s tone suggested it was not responsible for past territorial concessions to Azerbaijan, including the surrender of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).

Abrahamyan accused Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's government of “arrogance and empty rhetoric” while describing the leadership as politically defeated.
