Armenian church leader offers condolences to Georgia on Patriarch Ilia II's death

Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II has extended condolences to Georgia following the death of Patriarch Ilia II.

In a statement issued on behalf of the Supreme Spiritual Council, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the Armenian faithful, he praised Ilia II’s long years of pastoral service, describing them as a testament to steadfast faith and devoted spiritual leadership.

He noted that Ilia II’s tenure was marked by a revival of religious life in Georgia, strengthening and energizing the church during challenging times. The Armenian leader said the late patriarch guided his flock with “fatherly wisdom and love”, preserving the mission of the Georgian Orthodox Church.

Karekin II also prayed for comfort for the clergy of the Georgian Orthodox Church and the Georgian people, expressing hope that Ilia II’s memory would remain a lasting source of inspiration for future generations.
