Opposition MP says government targeting may expand beyond Artsakh Armenians

Any Armenian prepared to defend their land, their right to struggle, and their national and spiritual values could, at any time, become a target of the authorities, says Tigran Abrahamyan, an MP of the opposition Pativ Unem faction.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Abrahamyan stated that, in line with the government’s current political priorities, Artsakh Armenians are being targeted at this stage. However, he cautioned that similar actions could extend to residents across various regions of Armenia.

He further argued that such developments depend on the ruling party’s internal political agenda, as well as external pressures and expectations from Baku and Ankara, and the extent to which these factors align with the authorities’ political calculations.

“The issue is not limited to the people of Artsakh,” Abrahamyan said. “At any given moment, any Armenian committed to defending their land, their right to struggle and their sacred values may find themselves targeted.”
