Opposition MP criticizes Armenian government's handling of water crisis

Opposition lawmaker Taguhi Tovmasyan has criticized the Armenian government’s handling of the country’s water crisis, saying citizens are left alone against Veolia Jur, the French-operated utility responsible for water supply.

Speaking at a parliament session on Wednesday, the Pativ Unem faction MP said water outages continue despite government warnings to the company. She argued that sewer systems are morally and physically worn out, promised investments have not materialized and entire neighborhoods go days without water.

“The government’s intervention produces no tangible results,” Tovmasyan said, adding that public dissatisfaction is growing as the crisis deepens.

Tadevos Avetisyan, a candidate for the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, declined to comment, noting he could not express opinions on the matter if elected.

Tovmasyan insisted that the government’s management of water infrastructure remains inadequate, leaving citizens without reliable supply or functioning sewage systems.
