Opposition MP accuses Armenian government of inflating achievements amid losses

Armenian opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan on Thursday criticized the government’s narrative on national security and governance, saying officials are overstating progress despite a period marked by serious setbacks.

In a social media post, Abrahamyan, who represents the Pativ Unem faction, pointed to recent statements by senior officials touting increased defense spending, arms acquisitions and ambitious development plans. He said such claims stand in contrast to a record of defeats and losses under the current government.

“If the results are as significant as claimed, it raises a reasonable question as to why your entire tenure has been marked by defeats, tragedies, human and territorial losses,” the MP wrote.

He also alleged a disparity between the government officials’ conduct abroad and its messaging at home, arguing that the authorities adopt a more conciliatory approach toward Azerbaijan internationally while projecting confidence and success domestically.
