A public bus in Yerevan became trapped on Monday after driving into a road excavation site that had been poorly covered with soil, raising fresh concerns about construction safety in the Armenian capital.
The incident occurred on Shinararner Street, where water pipeline replacement works are underway. According to Hetq, bus No. 18 was passing near a stop when it drove over what appeared to be solid ground. In reality, the area concealed a pit that had been loosely filled with soil, causing the vehicle to sink.
The section of road had not been properly cordoned off, leaving drivers unaware of the hazard. Reports suggest that other parts of the street show similar subsidence, creating potential traps for cars.
