Opposition MP: Pashinyan government using state apparatus for domestic repression

Opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has accused Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s administration of using the entire state apparatus for domestic repression while Azerbaijan intensifies its anti-Armenian campaign.

In a social media post on Wednesday, Abrahamyan, who represents the Pativ Unem faction, stressed Baku continues to pursue aggressive anti-Armenian policies, leveling serious accusations against Armenia and its people. He argued that instead of addressing the external challenges, the Pashinyan government is focused on displays of force within the country.

“While Azerbaijan brands the Armenian people as genocidal and labels Armenia an occupier, the authorities are busy asserting themselves domestically,” Abrahamyan wrote.

He added that the government’s demonstrations of strength, ranging from the hardline stance of security agencies to military displays, serve “purely domestic political purposes”.
