Azerbaijan requested ceasefire after four-day Artsakh war in 2016, MP recalls

Armenian opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan on Thursday marked the 10th anniversary of the four-day war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in April 2016.

Writing on social media, Abrahamyan, a member of the Pativ Unem faction, stressed Azerbaijan’s attempt to resolve the conflict by force or to compel Armenia and Artsakh into capitulation ultimately failed. He credited the Defense Army and volunteer forces with inflicting significant losses on Azerbaijani troops and reservists, which forced Baku to request a ceasefire.

According to Abrahamyan, 75 Armenian servicemen were killed during the clashes. He cited various sources estimating Azerbaijani casualties at between 700 and 800.

“Glory to the homeland defenders! Eternal honor to those who sacrificed their lives for its protection!” the MP wrote. He also shared a photo showing the wreckage of an Azerbaijani helicopter that had attacked southern frontline positions of the Artsakh army.
