Armenian wrestling star Artur Aleksanyan has temporarily stepped away from competition this year to focus on medical treatment. The Greco-Roman Olympic gold medallist, who also holds two Olympic silver medals, one bronze, four world titles and seven European crowns, is currently undergoing recovery, national team head coach Armen Babalaryan said.
Despite his absence from the mat, Aleksanyan continues to support the squad, offering guidance during training sessions and sharing his experience with younger athletes. In the 97kg category, Armenia will be represented at the European Championships by U23 world champion Hayk Khloyan, who steps in for Aleksanyan.
