War against Iran signals collapse of international law, says Armenian analyst

The ongoing war against Iran signals the collapse of international law and ushers in a perilous new era, Iran specialist Vardan Voskanyan says.

“The war against Iran finally proves that no international law is functioning in the world anymore,” Voskanyan wrote on Telegram on Friday. He condemned strikes on Iranian educational, medical and pharmaceutical institutions as unprecedented acts that reveal a shift toward “the law of the jungle”.

He noted that assassinations of political leaders carried out by states and even celebrated highlight the erosion of global norms. “If an individual blows up a school, a university, a pharmaceutical institute, or kills a country’s leader, he is undoubtedly a terrorist,” Voskanyan said. “But when the same act is committed by a state, it is not even condemned in international instances.”

According to him, the erosion of norms leaves smaller states with limited defense capabilities increasingly vulnerable. “As strange as it may sound, more countries may begin to think about creating nuclear weapons to ensure their own security,” the analyst added.
