Detained Armenian student's health worsens in prison, taken to hospital

The health condition of detained 18-year-old David Minasyan has sharply deteriorated in prison, including a reported loss of consciousness.

Minasyan, who has been detained for two months following a church incident involving Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, was initially treated at a medical facility in Abovyan before being transferred to the Nairi Medical Center in Yerevan.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, his lawyer Varduhi Elbakyan said emergency services were called after Minasyan blacked out and his condition worsened.

According to Elbakyan, medical staff at the Abovyan hospital attempted to provide treatment but encountered complications. She added that Minasyan’s mother had been in frequent contact with his treating physician, inquiring about possible medication combinations before a decision was made to transfer him to another hospital.

Elbakyan said that in addition to Minasyan’s pre-existing chronic diseases and psychological conditions, new health issues have emerged.
