Former president slams Armenia's ruling party

Armenia’s third president, Serzh Sargsyan, has delivered a harsh critique of the ruling Civil Contract party, accusing its leadership of undermining national values and questioning the foundations of Armenian statehood.

Speaking at the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) congress on Saturday, Sargsyan declared: "We are who we are with our past and present, with our mistakes and achievements, with our values and faith. We are God‑fearing. What do you believe in? We belong to our people. Whom do you belong to?”

The former president went on to accuse Civil Contract members of casting doubt on the Armenian Genocide, dismissing Artsakh (Nagorno‑Karabakh) as a burden on Armenia, and portraying the country’s Declaration of Independence as a source of conflict and dependency.

“You are a disgraceful page in Armenia’s history, one that must be turned immediately — and that is our top priority,” he said.
