Armenian weightlifting teams set sights on medals at European Championships

The Armenian men’s and women’s national weightlifting teams say they are fully prepared and aiming for podium finishes as they head to the European Weightlifting Championships, scheduled for April 19–26 in Batumi, Georgia.

The teams recently held an open training session in Yerevan, marking the final phase of their preparations. Both squads will depart for Batumi on April 16, the Armenian Weightlifting Federation reported.

Women’s head coach Artashes Nersisyan said the team has completed its training cycle without setbacks.

“This is our last training camp before the competition,” Nersisyan said. “We’re heading in with a full team, just like last year, and the sense of responsibility is high. Preparation has gone smoothly, with no injuries. The key now is for each athlete to perform at their best. We are always competing for medals.”

Lifter Liana Gyurjyan echoed that confidence, highlighting the team’s unity and ambition.

“We have high expectations,” she said. “I believe we can deliver strong performances and win medals. We support each other both in challenges and in success and I’m confident the whole team can achieve results.”

Men’s head coach Hakob Pilosyan said his athletes are in top condition after an intensive training period.

“We’ve held five training camps and the team is in very good shape,” Pilosyan said. “The athletes are motivated and ready. Naturally, we’re going there to fight for medals.”

Team member Rafik Harutyunyan described the squad as fully focused heading into competition.

“This is the final stage of our preparation and we’re completely ready,” he said. “We’re going into the championships with a strong, competitive mindset. I tend to feel even more confident on the platform, and I’ll be aiming to improve my lifts. The atmosphere in the team is calm and most of the athletes are experienced.”
