Yerevan mayor warns bus drivers overtime pay tied to fare collection

Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan has warned bus drivers that they could lose overtime pay if they fail to participate in fare collection.

At a municipal executive meeting on Monday, Avinyan said drivers’ absence from the fare collection process was “absolutely unacceptable”. He noted that while new staff assigned to Yerevan Bus CJSC would help improve collection, drivers must also be directly involved.

“Overtime payments also depend on fare collection,” Avinyan said. “We cannot continue paying all employees, including drivers, full wages with overtime if they do not contribute to the process, especially when it comes to supporting fare collection. This is not their fault, but the way you have organized it,” he told company director Beglar Kirakosyan.

Kirakosyan reported that instructions had already been issued to drivers. Avinyan added that he expects to see measurable results within a month.
