Armenia set for heavy snowfall as cold front moves in

Armenia is bracing for a sharp return to winter as a powerful cold front sweeps in from the northwest, bringing heavy snow and rain to the country on 9-10 April.

The Ministry of Environment has warned that mountainous areas, including Shirak, Gegharkunik, Lori, the foothills of Tavush, as well as Kotayk, Aragatsotn and Vayots Dzor, will bear the brunt of the storm. Snow cover in these areas is expected to increase by 20 and 50 centimetres.

Forecasters say blizzard conditions are likely, with visibility dropping sharply and roads turning hazardous due to ice. The ministry has also cautioned of strong winds reaching 24-27 m/s in some regions on 8-10 April.
