Fallen soldier's mother slams 'criminal regime' in Armenia

Alis Gevorgyan, the mother of a soldier killed in the 2020 Artsakh war, strongly criticized the “criminal regime” in Armenia during a protest outside the Prosecutor General’s Office on Thursday, warning that its policies are catastrophic for Armenia’s youth, particularly those aged 18 to 25.

Gevorgyan spoke in support of detained 18-year-old student David Minasyan. “This regime is a disaster for everyone, but especially for young people,” she said.

The woman suggested that the hostility facing Armenian youth may be rooted in what she called “genetic hatred” from unfriendly neighboring states. Gevorgyan praised Minasyan’s classmates and peers for their persistence in organizing demonstrations across Yerevan, describing their solidarity as “an inspiring example of principle and courage.”

Urging the young protesters not to be swayed by public backlash, she added: “Do not break under the crowd’s reaction. While your peers prepare for graduation ceremonies, you are fighting for your friend and for your principles — against not only the criminal regime but also the ignorant masses that support it.”
