Armenia reports 14% weekly increase in respiratory infections

Severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) cases in Armenia increased by 14% during the latest reporting week, according to a weekly analysis released by the Heratsi Research Center.

Data from Heratsi No. 1 University Hospital, Muratsan Hospital Complex and the Mikayelyan Institute of Surgery show that 93 new SARI cases were recorded between March 30 and April 5, marking a rise compared with the previous week.

SARI cases accounted for 8.5% of all hospitalizations, up from 7.4% a week earlier, the report said.

Children made up the vast majority of cases. Those aged 5–14 accounted for 56% of infections, while children aged 0–4 represented 42%. Adults aged 30–64 comprised just 2% of cases.

Four patients were admitted to intensive care units, including three children under the age of 5.

Five SARI patients were tested for influenza during the reporting period. No deaths were recorded among hospitalized patients.
