U.S. actions against Iran expose divisions within NATO, Armenian MP says

U.S. actions against Iran have exposed existing divisions within NATO, Armenian opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan states, highlighting both political disagreements and the need for institutional reform within the alliance.

Writing on social media on Saturday, Abrahamyan, who represents the Pativ Unem faction, said the tensions reflect not only the policies of U.S. President Donald Trump toward NATO but also deeper structural challenges facing the bloc.

He argued that, regardless of formal provisions in NATO’s charter, cooperation ultimately depends on relations among member states.

“This demonstrates that, irrespective of what is written in the organization’s statutes, the foundation of cooperation lies primarily in relations between member countries,” Abrahamyan wrote.

He added that similar dynamics apply—albeit with some differences—to the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Russia-led security bloc which also includes Armenia.

“While certain statutory revisions could be beneficial, the effectiveness of the CSTO also depends on relations among its member states,” he said, noting that this has been evident during critical periods for Armenia.
