Strong Armenia party members placed under administrative supervision

Two members of the opposition Strong Armenia party, Gohar Ghumashyan and Verzhine Stepanyan, have been placed under administrative supervision as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into alleged election-related violations.

Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee reported that its investigative units have gathered evidence indicating that, following the February 7 presidential decree calling parliamentary elections—and the corresponding legal ban on charitable activities during the campaign period—benefits were distributed to voters under the guise of charity.

According to the agency, the alleged incidents took place in March and involved both the direct provision of funds and the promise of services on preferential terms.

Prosecutors have stated their intention to petition the court to impose house arrest on Ghumashyan as a preventive measure, citing factors including her responsibility for minor children.

The Strong Armenia party is led by businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan, who is currently under house arrest on charges of calling for the seizure of power in Armenia. His legal team and experts have dismissed the charges as politically motivated.
