Armenian opposition member condemns arrest of mother, child brought to court
Narek Karapetyan, a board member of the opposition Strong Armenia party, denounced the detention of fellow party member Gohar Ghumashyan after she was arrested and appeared in court with her two-month-old infant on Tuesday.
Karapetyan shared a video of Ghumashyan and her baby on social media, writing: “Armenia, the final year of Pashinyan’s rule. Mothers are being arrested, children appear in court alongside their mothers. Change is the only way out.”
Ghumashyan has since been released and placed under administrative supervision.
The Anti-Corruption Committee accused the young woman as well as another Strong Armenia member of violating a legal ban on election-related benevolence.
