Armenian opposition MP accuses government of intolerance and power consolidation

Opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan on Saturday accused the Armenian authorities of suppressing dissent and prioritizing political entrenchment over national interests.

Writing on social media, Abrahamyan, a member of the Pativ Unem faction, said senior members of the ruling Civil Contract party display intolerance toward alternative viewpoints and direct verbal attacks at segments of society that challenge official positions.

“The ruling regime’s most odious representatives do not tolerate dissent and use offensive language,” he wrote, stating that the government’s primary objective is not to advance state or public welfare but to consolidate its grip on power.

He further claimed that the authorities are hostile toward those who actively defend their rights, asserting that such individuals are particularly targeted for criticism. Abrahamyan also accused the government of employing tactics such as defamation, misinformation, intimidation and coordinated pressure against its critics.
