Tbilisi considers naming street after Charles Aznavour

Armenian Ambassador to Georgia Ashot Smbatyan and French Ambassador Olivier Courtaut have discussed a proposal to name a street in Tbilisi after legendary French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour.

The idea was raised at a meeting with Tbilisi City Council chairman Zurab Abashidze, attended by council members Mikheil Rekhviashvili and Mamuka Baliashvili, the Armenian Embassy in Georgia reported on Tuesday.

The diplomats underscored the importance of strong ties between their countries and Georgia, noting that cooperation with the Georgian capital reflects longstanding historical links and friendship among the three nations.

Participants expressed hope that cooperation would continue to deepen. Abashidze said the relevant city council commission is prepared to review the proposal.

Aznavour had close connections to the region. His father was born in Akhaltsikhe, southern Georgia, while his mother was from Izmir, Turkey.
