Yerevan gridlock leaves commuters stranded for hours

Rush-hour traffic in the Armenian capital reached near-paralysis on Wednesday morning, with drivers reporting unprecedented delays across the city’s main arteries.

Commuters travelling from the Malatia-Sebastia district to the city centre faced journeys lasting between 90 minutes and two hours.

Between 8 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., congestion levels peaked at 8–9 on the city’s traffic scale, effectively locking down both major and minor roads. Isakov Avenue was described as impassable, with vehicles at a standstill for hours. Heavy jams were also reported along Sebastia Street, Leningradyan Street, Tsitsernakaberd Highway, Orbeli Street, Baghramyan Avenue and other key routes.
