Eight Armenian parties and blocs file nominations for June 7 elections

Eight political parties and alliances have submitted applications to run in Armenia’s June 7 parliamentary elections, the Central Election Commission (CEC) announced on Thursday.

CEC spokesperson Seda Ghukasyan said the Civil Contract party, Prosperous Armenia Party, Meritocratic Party of Armenia, Against Everyone Party, Strong Armenia alliance, Democratic Consolidation Party, Bright Armenia Party and National Democratic Alliance have all filed nomination papers.

She noted that while 24 applications for user accounts have been received, not all will necessarily lead to candidate registrations. “Parties are free to apply for an account, but that does not obligate them to submit nominations,” Ghukasyan said.

Just an hour before her briefing, the Democracy, Law and Discipline Party also requested an account.

The candidate registration begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday to continue until May 3.
