Acute respiratory infections rise in Armenia

Hospitals in Armenia have reported a significant uptick in severe acute respiratory infections (SARIs), according to weekly surveillance data from Yerevan State Medical University’s Heratsi No. 1 and Muratsan Hospital Complexes, as well as the Mikayelyan Institute of Surgery.

During the 16th epidemiological week of 2026 (April 13–19), newly registered SARI cases climbed to 87, marking a 52% increase compared with the previous week. These cases accounted for 7% of all hospital admissions, up from 4.8% the week prior.

The majority of cases were confirmed among children: 45% in the 0–4 age group and 52% in the 5–14 age group. Adults aged 30–64 represented just 1% of cases, while patients over 65 comprised 2%. Six individuals required intensive care treatment.

One case was tested for influenza during the reporting period, though no fatalities were recorded among hospitalized patients.
