Gagik Tsarukyan: Armenians must never forget genocide

Armenian opposition leader Gagik Tsarukyan said on Friday that no Armenian has the right to deny or forget the 1915 genocide, insisting that remembrance is essential for the nation’s future.

Speaking to reporters at the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial in Yerevan on the 111th anniversary of the tragedy, Tsarukyan noted that more than 40 countries have formally recognized the mass killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turks as genocide, crediting the efforts of influential Armenians worldwide.

“We cannot forget our history. If we forget it, we cannot have a future,” Tsarukyan said.

He also criticized the current Armenian leadership, saying that “no one imagined there would be a government afraid to look at Mount Ararat, to speak about the genocide, Artsakh and the destruction of cultural heritage there.”
