Catholicos Karekin II commemorates Armenian Genocide victims

His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, on Friday visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex in Yerevan to mark the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day.

Accompanied by clergy from the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Karekin II took part in commemorative events at the memorial, where an intercessory service for the holy martyrs of the Armenian Genocide was held.

On this occasion, a reliquary containing relics of the holy martyrs was brought to the memorial.

Earlier, the Mother See announced that a Divine Liturgy would be celebrated at the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin at 11 a.m. local time. At the conclusion of the service, an intercessory rite for the Holy Martyrs will be performed before the Khachkar of Prayer and Vow.

Karekin II paid tribute to the Armenian Genocide victims in a message issued ahead of the commemorations.
