Pashinyan signals progress toward full border demarcation with Azerbaijan

Armenia expects to advance and ultimately complete the long-standing process of border delimitation and demarcation with Azerbaijan in the near future, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said.

Speaking at a ceremony marking the establishment day of the Border Guard Troops of Armenia’s National Security Service, Pashinyan said that, for the first time since independence, all of Armenia’s official border crossing points are now under the control of Armenian border guards.

He also noted that a 12-kilometer section of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border has already been formally delimited and demarcated, where Armenian border guard units are currently deployed.

According to Pashinyan, this stretch represents the only part of the frontier where Armenian and Azerbaijani military personnel operate in a significantly de-escalated environment, without helmets, body armour, or loaded weapons carried on their persons.

Pashinyan added that work on border delimitation would continue and be completed “within a logical timeframe,” describing it as a key objective of the government’s regional policy.

He further said that Armenia also has an agenda to finalise the delimitation of its border with Georgia, noting that agreements have already been reached with Georgian counterparts.

"Once these processes are concluded, Armenia’s internationally recognised borders would be fully clarified, enabling the country to place greater focus on its development agenda," Pashinyan added.
