Armenia's crime rate falls by 3.2% in 2025, detection improves – chief prosecutor

Armenia’s crime rate fell by 3.2% in 2025 compared with the previous year, Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan said on Wednesday, citing official data presented to parliament.

A total of 40,722 crimes were registered nationwide in 2025, down from 42,057 in 2024. The capital, Yerevan, accounted for 18,857 cases, compared with 19,877 a year earlier.

Vardapetyan also reported a notable rise in crime detection, with the clearance rate increasing to 29.7% from 22.8% in 2024, marking a gain of 6.9 percentage points.

Lower- and medium-severity offenses continued to dominate the crime landscape, representing 82.6% of all recorded cases. Minor offenses accounted for 49.2% (20,041 cases), while medium-severity crimes comprised 33.4% (13,585 cases).

The proportion of serious and particularly serious crimes edged down to 17.4% of total offenses in 2025, from 18.3% a year earlier, indicating a slight reduction in higher-risk criminal activity.

The figures were disclosed as part of the prosecutor general’s annual report on prosecutorial activities, submitted to the National Assembly on March 31.
