Armenian composer Arsen Babajanyan among winners of Spanish composition competition

A Germany-based Armenian composer has been named among the winners of a leading composition competition in Spain.

Arsen Babajanyan is one of six composers selected for the honour, Orer.eu reported. The winners will participate in a workshop with a symphony orchestra, culminating in the live performance of their works.

Babajanyan’s piece, Pre-Fragments II, will be performed by the Real Filharmonía de Galicia under the baton of conductor Armando Merino.

The concert is scheduled for 8 May in Santiago de Compostela, as part of the Resis Festival.

“I am happy to be among the winners, and that my work will premiere alongside compositions by five other composers,” Babajanyan said in a statement. “I am especially pleased about the opportunity to collaborate with widely respected conductor Armando Merino.”

The performance will feature new works by all six selected composers, offering a platform for contemporary orchestral music and emerging international talent.
