May confirmed as Armenia's wettest month

May is the wettest month in Armenia, with average precipitation totaling 89 millimeters and a mean monthly temperature of 9.8C, according to Levon Azizyan, Director of the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center.

Citing observational data collected since 1935, Azizyan highlighted notable fluctuations in the country’s spring climate. The warmest May on record was registered in 2021, when the average monthly temperature reached 12.5C. By contrast, the coldest May occurred in 1956, with an average of just 7.1C.

Rainfall records also reveal significant extremes. The wettest May was recorded in 1936, when precipitation climbed to 186.6 millimeters, more than twice the long-term average. At the other end of the spectrum, the driest May was observed in 1989, with only 39.5 millimeters of rainfall.
