Armenian actor Khoren Levonyan explains departure from Public TV

Armenian actor Khoren Levonyan has addressed his departure from the Public TV Company of Armenia, citing a disagreement over content he was asked to perform.

Speaking on the program Tete A Tete, Levonyan said he declined to record a voiceover for a New Year’s film after reviewing a script he felt was inconsistent with his professional standards and previous work, including the long-running music program Yerk Yerkots.

He said the text appeared to trivialize elements of Armenian cultural expression, particularly traditional music and language, which he has promoted throughout his career. Levonyan added that his contract did not require him to accept such assignments.

“I said I was willing to do it if some parts were revised,” he noted, explaining that he had requested edits to better align the material with those values. According to him, the producers declined to make changes.

Levonyan said that shortly before filming, he was told that a meeting had taken place in which his refusal was discussed, and a decision was made to move forward with his dismissal.

He denied any personal conflict with the broadcaster’s director, Hovhannes Movsisyan, stating that they had little direct interaction during his five years under current management.

Levonyan, who spent 25 years at the network, said he remains hopeful about returning to television, describing the broadcaster as a place that has long felt like home.
