Campaign restrictions clarified ahead of Armenia’s parliamentary elections

Campaigning for Armenia’s upcoming parliamentary elections will begin on 8 May ahead of the vote scheduled for 7 June, the Central Election Commission has announced.

At a press briefing on Thursday, CEC Chairman Vahagn Hovakimyan clarified the rules governing the participation of officials during the pre-election period.

He said that the prime minister and members of the government are allowed to remain in office during the campaign period, but are prohibited from engaging in campaign activities during official working hours.

“Those who intend to participate in campaigning must go on leave. This should be welcomed, because otherwise it would create problems,” Hovakimyan said.
