Arman Tatoyan: Armenia needs leadership guided by national interests

Wings of Unity party leader and prime ministerial candidate Arman Tatoyan has delivered criticism of both Russia’s role in recent conflicts and the failures of Armenia’s current government.

Speaking to reporters at Yerevan’s Victory Park on Saturday, Tatoyan questioned Moscow’s actions during the period when Russian peacekeepers were stationed in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh).

“Our compatriots went to Artsakh relying on their protection. Why then were they not defended?” he asked.

He also raised concerns about Russia’s lack of support during Azerbaijani attacks on Syunik, noting that “various explanations were given, but assistance was not provided to Armenia”.

While acknowledging that answers are needed from Russia, Tatoyan stressed that the deeper problem lies in the Armenian leadership.

“These questions demand answers, but they are the result of the Armenian government’s failed policies," he said. "Too often we blame Russia or Europe, but what did our leaders do? Armenia needs leadership that defends Armenia’s national interests, rather than serving those of Azerbaijan."
