Armenian GM wins silver at Sardinia World Chess Festival 2026

Armenian GM Haik Martirosyan has won a silver medal at the Sardinia World Chess Festival 2026 held in Italy.

Haik scored 7 points out of 9, sharing 2nd-4th places and taking 2nd place on tie-breaks, the Armenian Chess Federation reported on Sunday.

Armenian GM Mamikon Gharibyan also scored 7 points and finished 4th on tie-breaks.

The top three standings are as follows:

1st place: GM Frederik Svane — 7.5 points

2nd place: GM Haik Martirosyan — 7 points

3rd place: GM Ian Nepomniachtchi — 7 points

From Armenia, GM Emin Ohanyan and FM Sargis Manukyan also participated in the tournament, both scoring 5.5 points.
