Opposition MP warns government inaction puts Armenian prisoners in Baku at risk
Opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has warned that the Armenian government inaction is allowing Azerbaijan to act with “impunity”, placing the lives of Armenian prisoners held in Baku at serious risk.
Abrahamyan made the remarks in response to a recent statement by former Artsakh foreign minister David Babayan. He described Babayan’s account of reprisals, abuses and widespread violations of the rights of Armenian prisoners as “shocking”.
In a social media post on Saturday, the Pativ Unem faction MP also noted that Babayan’s concerns echo recent comments by former Artsakh parliament speaker David Ishkhanyan, who pointed to a growing cycle of lawlessness and a “situational deadlock” regarding the status of Armenian prisoners.
“Above all, I am concerned about the safety of Armenian captives,” Abrahamyan said. “Amid the Armenian government’s criminal inaction, Azerbaijan is acting with impunity, posing a serious threat to the lives and health of Armenian prisoners.”
