Renowned Armenian filmmaker Artavazd Pelechian received a standing ovation and prolonged applause at the Cannes Film Festival, where a special retrospective was held in his honour on Sunday.
The event took place as part of Cannes Classics, showcasing five newly restored works by Pelechian. The screenings offered audiences a rare opportunity to journey through different stages of the director’s cinematic career, widely celebrated for its poetic and philosophical depth, the Armenian Cinema Foundation reported.
The packed auditorium welcomed Pelechian himself, who was present at the event. His appearance was met with exceptional warmth, with festival-goers rising to their feet in recognition of his contribution to world cinema.
The Cinema Foundation said the occasion reaffirmed “the Maestro’s enduring presence in world cinema”.
