Armenia foils transit of 28 kg hashish hidden in Iranian truck

Armenia’s State Revenue Committee has intercepted 28 kilograms of hashish hidden in a truck transiting from Iran to Georgia, preventing the country’s territory from being used as a narcotics corridor.

Officials reported that the Iranian driver’s vehicle, declared to be carrying construction tiles, was stopped at the Agarak border crossing. After initial X-ray checks showed no irregularities, a trained sniffer dog alerted inspectors to possible contraband, the SRC said in a statement on Monday.

A detailed search uncovered specially welded compartments in the trailer containing 111 packages of hashish. The driver was detained and transferred to the Syunik regional investigative department, where a criminal case has been launched to determine the full scope of the smuggling operation and potential accomplices.

Authorities stressed their commitment to combating drug trafficking and urged compliance with laws to safeguard public security.
