Armenians voice frustration over state of public services and economy

Residents in Armenia say virtually every sector of the country is in need of urgent support and investment, despite repeated government assurances that reforms and spending initiatives are delivering results.

In interviews conducted by Panorama.am in central Yerevan on Wednesday, citizens expressed growing dissatisfaction with the pace and visibility of improvements in daily life. While government officials have frequently pointed to investments in areas ranging from infrastructure to social services, many respondents said the promised progress has yet to translate into meaningful change for ordinary people.

Asked which sectors require the most attention, nearly all participants gave the same response: all of them.

Healthcare and education were among the areas most commonly highlighted, though several residents argued that the challenges facing the country extend far beyond any single field.

“Is there any sector that does not need support? There isn’t one,” one resident said.

Another interviewee said no sector in Armenia could be considered fully developed or functioning effectively without additional assistance.

“Every sphere needs support in one way or another,” the resident said.

Others questioned whether authorities were capable of delivering lasting improvements at all.

“There are too many sectors to name,” one citizen remarked. “But the real question is whether anything can actually be achieved.”

Agriculture was also cited as a growing concern, with one resident criticising the absence of a dedicated agriculture ministry and linking it to rising living costs and mounting economic pressure on households.

“First and foremost, we need a Ministry of Agriculture,” the resident said. “Without it, people are facing constant price increases and worsening conditions.”

Some respondents expressed cautious hope that reforms could eventually lead to broader improvements across the country.

“I hope we will soon see changes in every sector,” one citizen said.
