Armenian opposition MP condemns government's planned military parade

Armenian opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has denounced the government’s planned military parade, scheduled for May 28 to mark First Republic Day, accusing the authorities of staging a “victorious spectacle” aimed at their own citizens rather than adversaries.

Writing on social media on Monday, Abrahamyan, a member of the Pativ Unem faction, described the event as a costly exercise financed by billions in loans and public funds. He argued that the government was repackaging the expenditures as a form of public accountability while in reality burdening taxpayers and future generations.

“Those symbolising defeat are now organizing a ‘victorious parade,’ not against Armenia’s external enemies, but against its own citizens,” Abrahamyan said. He accused the country’s leadership of fostering “hatred, hostility and internal confrontation” while celebrating what he called a “national collapse”.
