Temperatures to plunge across Armenia

Armenia is set to experience a dramatic shift in weather later this week, with forecasters warning of a sudden plunge in temperatures as Arctic air sweeps into the region.

In a video released on Wednesday, Gagik Surenyan, deputy director of the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center, said the country is currently under the influence of warm subtropical air masses, delivering dry and sunny conditions nationwide. Temperatures are expected to rise by 2-4C on Wednesday and Thursday.

From the evening of 28 May, however, a cyclone moving in from the Black Sea will bring scattered, short-lived showers. More significantly, Surenyan noted that Arctic air currents will penetrate from the northwest on 29-30 May, driving temperatures down by 8-10C.

The cold spell will be brief. By 31 May and 1 June, rainfall is expected to ease, and temperatures will rebound to previous levels.
