Armenian party protests outside Prosecutor's Office over fabricated cases

The Against All party, which is contesting Armenia’s upcoming June 7 parliamentary elections, staged a protest outside the Prosecutor General’s Office on Tuesday to draw attention to the politically motivated fabrication of criminal cases against government critics and opponents.

The demonstration, which organizers dubbed a “case-fabrication” action, sought to illustrate what the party says is a pattern of authorities using criminal proceedings to target political adversaries, outspoken critics and citizens who challenge officials with difficult questions.

Party representatives pointed to the case of Artsakh native Artur Osipyan as an example of politically driven prosecution.

“A case was fabricated against Spider-Man in full view of the public, and we see similar practices occurring in real life,” Spartak Kyureghyan, the party’s lead candidate, told reporters following the protest.

Kyureghyan stressed Osipyan is not the only individual who has faced political persecution in Armenia.

“We believe there are other political prisoners in Armenia whose cases have been fabricated or manipulated in various ways,” he said.

Kyureghyan added that the party plans to hold similar protests before the conclusion of the election campaign.
