Armenian authorities seize €956,400 in undeclared cash at border

Armenia’s State Revenue Committee has intercepted nearly €1 million in undeclared cash during customs inspections at Zvartnots International Airport, underscoring intensified efforts to combat tax violations and illicit financial flows.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the SRC said customs officers flagged suspicious baggage during preliminary X-ray screening of luggage arriving on a Dortmund–Yerevan flight. Two passengers who had opted for the Green Channel were redirected to the Red Channel for inspection, where investigators uncovered vast sums of undeclared currency.

According to the committee, an Armenian citizen, identified as M.N., was found carrying €578,050 in cash without proper declaration. In a separate case, Dutch national S.N. was discovered with €378,350 concealed in luggage.

The seizures, totaling €956,400, were documented in official protocols by the Committee’s Air Transport and E-Commerce Division in cooperation with the Anti-Smuggling Department. Authorities said legal proceedings are now underway.

The State Revenue Committee urged travelers to familiarize themselves with customs regulations and comply with declaration requirements to ensure transparency and legality in cross-border financial transactions.
