More than 112,000 Armenians traveled to Russia in 2026, many for work

More than 112,000 Armenian citizens entered Russia in the first five months of 2026, with tens of thousands arriving for work, according to figures released by Russian state news agency TASS.

From January through March, 42,366 Armenians crossed into Russia for employment, slightly down from 45,526 during the same period in 2025. Overall arrivals this year totaled 112,741, including 50,699 for private visits, 3,200 for study, 1,568 for tourism, 1,308 for business, 12,289 as service personnel, and 1,311 in transit.

Most travelers arrived by air (69,761) or car (39,857), while 3,054 crossed on foot and 68 by train.

The migration figures come as Moscow imposed temporary restrictions on imports of certain fruits and vegetables from Armenia beginning May 30. The ban covers tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, herbs and strawberries. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan criticized the move as “wrong and politically motivated.”
