Voter turnout in Armenia's parliamentary elections tops 33%

More than one-third of Armenia’s eligible voters had cast ballots in the country’s parliamentary elections by 2 p.m. on Sunday, according to the Central Electoral Commission, putting turnout ahead of the pace recorded during the last national vote in 2021.

A total of 847,226 voters, or 33.84% of the electorate, had participated by 2 p.m., CEC member Silva Markosyan said. Armenia has 2,505,102 registered voters.

In the capital, Yerevan, turnout stood at 33.38%, with 283,601 ballots cast out of 849,488 eligible voters.

Regional participation varied across the country, with the southern province of Syunik posting the highest turnout at 39.02%. Tavush followed at 38.87%, while Vayots Dzor recorded 37.81%. Kotayk reported turnout of 35.95%, and both Aragatsotn and Lori approached 35%.

Elsewhere, turnout reached 32.81% in Ararat, 30.39% in Armavir, 32.29% in Gegharkunik and 31.57% in Shirak.

The latest figures marked a significant increase from the previous turnout update released at 11 a.m., when 362,657 voters, or 14.48% of the electorate, had cast ballots.

Participation was also running well ahead of the 2021 snap parliamentary elections when turnout stood at 26.82% at 2 p.m., with 695,626 voters having cast ballots.
