Gyumri records intense rainfall and hail

Powerful thunderstorms swept across northern Armenia overnight, bringing heavy rain and hail to parts of Shirak, Lori and Tavush Provinces.

In Gyumri, the meteorological station recorded 17 mm of rainfall in just one hour and hailstones up to 10 mm in diameter between June 10 and 11. Satellite data indicated that rainfall rates reached nearly 40 mm per hour in some parts of the city.

The storms were fueled by strong convective activity and vigorous updrafts, resulting in intense downpours and thunderstorms across the region.
