Armenia election recount increases vote totals for three opposition forces

Armenia’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has released the results of a recount conducted at 637 polling stations, showing that vote totals increased for the country’s three main opposition forces while also rising for the ruling Civil Contract party.

According to the CEC, the recount resulted in a net increase of 1,148 votes for Civil Contract, bringing its total to 727,820 votes.

Among opposition groups, the largest gain was recorded by the Strong Armenia alliance, whose vote total increased by 508 votes to 340,088. The Hayastan (Armenia) alliance gained 217 votes, raising its total to 145,113, while the Prosperous Armenia Party added 147 votes to reach 58,378.

Several smaller parties also registered modest increases, including Bright Armenia (+55), Republic (+8), and the National Democratic Pole (+5).

Meanwhile, a number of political forces saw their vote totals decline following the recount. The largest reduction was recorded by the Democracy, Law and Discipline Party, which lost 819 votes. The Against All Party lost 244 votes, while the Meritocratic Party of Armenia lost 117 votes.

The CEC said the aggregate discrepancy figure increased by 230, from 1,279 to 1,509. At the same time, the number of invalid ballots fell by 859, decreasing from 17,097 to 16,238.
