Armenian political analyst arrested over alleged calls to overthrow government
Armenian authorities have arrested political analyst Alen Ghevondyan on charges of inciting the violent overthrow of the constitutional order through social media posts, the Investigative Committee said on Friday.
Officials said two criminal cases were opened against Ghevondyan and Tigran Vardanyan, a board member of the Republican Party, under Article 422 of Armenia’s Criminal Code, which covers public calls to seize power using information and communication technologies.
Vardanyan has been declared wanted, while Ghevondyan has been arrested pending a court ruling on his meadure of restraint.
The preliminary probe is underway.
