Opposition MP says authorities deliberately delaying decision on Prosperous Armenia

Opposition lawmaker Tigran Abrahamyan has charged that the Armenian authorities are deliberately delaying a decision on the Prosperous Armenia Party following Sunday’s parliamentary elections in an effort to deepen uncertainty among their rivals.

Writing on social media on Saturday, Abrahamyan, a member of the Pativ Unem faction, said the government had “long made a decision” regarding Prosperous Armenia but was intentionally dragging out the process to fuel frustration within the opposition groups.

“Unlike Nikol Pashinyan, who speaks one thing but does the opposite, people’s expectation from forces entering parliament is very clear — to fulfill promises and act in line with their positions,” Abrahamyan wrote. He stated that creating “false agendas” and shifting blame mirrored what he called “Nikol-style” tactics, warning that opposition parties should avoid falling into that trap.

Initial election results showed the Prosperous Armenia Party receiving 4 percent of the vote, the minimum required to enter the legislature.

However, the Central Electoral Commission later revised the tally to 3.996 percent, leaving the party just below the threshold. Final results are scheduled to be announced on June 14.
